FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
ON THE INTERNET
Whether or not the TIME article of July 3rd is accurate has been the topic of
considerable debate, causing critiques and rebuttals to flourish on the
Internet. One fact that the article manages to establish is that explicit material does indeed
exist on the Internet. This raises many questions concerning the acceptability of materials
for publication. I suggest that some of the answers to these questions may be found in the
principle of academic freedom.
