Some of the most moving photos I've seen online come from the New York Times' Pictures of the Day. They are beautifully shot and can be emotionally wrenching. The most important aspect of art to me is its ability to evoke emotion in it's audience. There are more subtle ways of evoking joy in people, but I like images that not only create joy they are clearly capturing it as well. Who can't help but feel happy when looking at a photograph of someone laughing?

Technology and fake music

I found this Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up1wraRnriI&feature=channel of Calvin Harris Human Synthesizer that had me completely enthralled. I think it is fascinating that after the thousands of years humans having been using their bodies to make sounds, by clapping, stomping, singing and then with instruments, now there is a new way the human body can be used to produce sound: the Humanthesizer. Now we have the technology make music by simply connecting an electric circuit. Is this technology going to make instruments obsolete? Is synthetic music still music? Does it have the same ability to move people emotionally? Does a synthesizer make it easier for the common man to make music? What is the demographics of people who are buying synthesizers as opposed to say violins? I would like to explore these questions
