It Never Ends

I was out with friends the other night when one of them told me their was a video we all had to see on youtube. She showed us the above adaptation of Lil Wayne's "Stutting like my Daddy" remixed to fit with the Lion King. I couldn't help but connect our discussion of narrative revision and the true breath and depth of the original source text of Hamlet to continue to adapt with each new era. Here we have a rapper who's lyrics go unbelievibly well with the original story of Hamlet avenging his father as well as Simba protecting Pride Rock. The lyrics include:

"And I be stuntin like my daddy, stuntin like my daddy
Stuntin like my daddy, I be stuntin like my daddy
Im the, young stunna, stuntin like my daddy
Stuntin like my daddy, I be stuntin like my daddy"
 


Is this what our generation has turned into? From the overall saga of Hamlet avenging his father to simply saying, "I be stuntin like my daddy?" I sure hope not.
