The final reason for unequal pay is that women do not work the same hours has men. The B.L.S. states "women are employed fewer hours in the week and fewer weeks in the year that their male counterparts...For all men, only 1.6% of all potential work-years were spent away from work, while for women workers, 14.7% of all potential work-years were spent away form paid work. Also, this time away from work decreases women's seniority below men's, therefore causing less pay in the long run.
