To help increase the pay of women to acquire womenÕs pay equal to that of menÕs, a few measures must be taken. First, when it comes down to it, if two people are performing the same tasks then the two people should be paid the same for doing the tasks regardless if one has more skill, in terms of education or experience. If a business does not feel that the person with more skill should get paid less because the other person who has less skill, then the business should provide a form of training that will educate and enhance the skills of that person. Secondly, pay rates based on seniority are permitted by The Equal Pay Act of 1963, but the act does not include any clause that prohibits seniority to be taken away from a person because of a leave of absence that must be taken. For example, it does not protect women from losing their seniority if they must take a leave of absence because of their pregnancy. Although, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects pregnant women against getting fired during and after pregnancy it does not enforce protection against a deduction in pay or in the loss of seniority. A clause in both these laws must be included to protect against a loss of seniority of any woman that must take a leave of absence. Another reform is in opening up opportunities in occupations to women. It is understood that women take the stereotypical jobs because of less commitment. If Businesses provided a system where the women had the opportunities to work at home with the family without a deduction in pay, then women would take higher paying jobs. Also, if the businesses provided either a daycare or system in which a woman, who has children, can work while the children are being taken care of, then the woman can take jobs with more responsibility. These services to women will enable women to work more hours and increase their pay. In other organizations, jobs should be open to women, to satisfy The Civil Rights Act of 1964. Overall, if the rights of a woman are denied under the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 then the women should file a law suit against these businesses.
By providing services , instating new regulations that protect women's seniority, opening opportunities to women, and paying women the same amount of money as they do men, they will raise the pay of women to the levels of men, which should not be denied because men and women are created equally. If businesses increase pay, provide special services, such as office daycare, and open up new opportunities to women, then then the following actions may take place:
1. women will have the incentive to work
2. women will go get a higher education to improve their skills
3. productivity will increase in businesses because the workforce will have the incentive to work and plus their will be a greater number of women working.
If training was provided to women to increase their skill, then both will benefit because:
1. women will improve their performance at work
2. productivity will increase in business because women that have acquired new skills through training will be able to produce more.
Protection for pregnant women against the loss of seniority will provide security for women to take jobs that will businesses out in the long run. For example, if women are at ease, then they will perform better because they will not have that extra worry of losing their seniority. These proposals will give women the incentive to go to work and they will offer new opportunities to women that can allow the rise of womenÕs pay to become equal to that of men. The proposals will not discourage women to work, it will not hold women back from going out to more responsible jobs that will pay more money, they will open the doors to women to do these things. These proposals will not hurt the economy but will stimulate in the growth and decrease the unemployment by creating new jobs for sitters, daycare owners, and so forth. The laws will protect women for their rights that should not have been denied.
The unequal pay is unjustifiable because women are the same as men and deserve the same pay. Nothing separates the two but the stereotypes, the protection, and the systems of businesses. If by improving the state of injustice the pay of women will be equal, then the act to achieve it should be taken.
