In a New York Times poll in 1989,"job discrimination was an overwhelming winner as an important problem facing women today"(Faludi 16). Justice for their gender consistently ranks as an urgent concern for the liberated females of this decade. Discrimination often goes unnoticed because it is built into the norms and values of society. "The arguments against the Amendment are unconvincing. Wives and children would not be left without financial support; man and women would not be forced to use restrooms together."(Deckard 172). In today's society the patterns of patriarchy, a form of social organization in which males dominate females, characterizes our time to some degree. Although American women have claimed victory in terms of freedom, they still have never been so miserable.
