Assignments: Week 9
Task 2
Today we'll begin thinking about Web composition again. Starting next week we
will be translating our essays to the Web. This is not as easy as it sounds, and before we can begin we need to think
about just what makes a good Web site. Today we will use a script that I've set up to let us share discussions about
different Web sites.
We'll spend the day evaluating different sites on the Web as a way of helping us think about criteria. I'd like you to
break into groups of threes and work through the following tasks:
- First you'll need to choose some sites to evaluate as part of the assignment. Since we'll be creating arguments on the
Web, be sure to choose sites to discuss that will be useful for our purposes. In other words, evaluating the Hot WIred
site may not be the most useful exercise for us.
- As a group hash out some suggestions or search for some sites that you think are worthy of attention. Next, choose one site to submit to the class.
- Come up with a short assessment of the site. Brainstorm with your group about what makes it worthwile or not.
- Next, go to the Evalusite page and use the form to add your site to the discussion list. Use the assessment that you have come up with as your initial comment on the site.
- Finally, with your group, follow the links to the other sites which have been submitted and offer your own evaluation of them.
- The first part--submitting your own site should take about 25 minutes, so that you can use the rest of the time to discuss the other sites.
Have fun and let me know if you have questions.
