Pay for Play: Should College Athletes be Paid for Playing Collegiate Sports?

College athletes are under enormous pressure to perform both in their respective sports and in the classroom. They are also responsible for bringing in millions of dollars to their schools each year through television revenue, gate receipts and apparel sales. As a result, the NCAA has begun to consider paying its athletes, a practice which would provide some financial relief to collegiate athletes who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. College athletes today deserve a small share of the millions they bring in to their schools each year to provide them with financial assistance, to keep them in school longer and in fairness for the considerable contributions they make to their universities.
