A Country of Freedom?

**Same-sex Marriages**

The typical American dream consists of growing up, choosing a career, falling in love, getting married, and having 2.5 kids. In a country of freedom this is possible for anyone, or is it? In July of 1996 the United States government passed a bill, The Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition of same-sex marriages; therefore, many laws which benefit married couples are not applicable to homosexuals("Legislation" 499). So much for that American dream.
