Making the video Mashup was intriguing. I used the movie Lion King and the Man of Steel trailer to create my video. I used Gimp to add a cape to Simba which symbolizes a “Lion of Steel, while leaving the shield on his mane as he transforms into my invincible Super Lion!

My theme reflects Simba, a baby cub growing up in Pride Rock exiles himself. His father dies and his uncle tricks him to walk away from his destiny and his future. I felt the two media merged together was challenging. Clark Kent is a lot like Simba as he loses both his parents due to being transported to earth. Clark grows up with special powers and his earthly father warns him the people will never accept him due to his uniqueness. Simba and Clark both must resolve their inner struggles of fear in order to survive.

The two characters have commonality of internal conflict, ostracized from their communities ignites both to overcome their fears or the communities they both love will be destroyed. Such a dramatic position for a lion and a man to be in but it is the perfect scenario for a “Mashup.” I used Camtasia Studio to create my video. The features in Camtasia Studio I used to enhance my video were transitional features, highlighting text, zoom-n-pan (another unique feature) spotlight, transparent hotspot, adding and removing callouts, audio features and the clip bin to store imported media. The transitional features were my favorite to work with. Learning the “improv technique” earlier in the Netwriting class places the student at an advantage of perfecting their projects. Dr. Anderson does a great job in teaching techniques and research to keep us on task. The improv features of fading music adding narrations and synchronizing visuals made appreciate learning this film editing concept. I used call out features to spiral in clipped scenes which keeps the viewers fascinated and allows visuals in the video to keep the story alive! Having imported media in the clip bin always you to work with more precision because everything you need to create the video is in one central location. The suggestions or tips on making an excellent Mashup video are listed above. The most time consuming portion of the work is editing and downloading your movie and picking the right trailer to create an interesting Mashup video. I enjoyed this class and hard work does pay off.
