Here is my final portfolio.

Video Collage- I ad a great time working on this project- it was definetely my favorite. I think the images were brought alive by the poetry and music combination, and I was happy with the result. It was easy to find pictures for my topic, but I had trouble with the videos. The Movie Maker software was really easy to use, and I spent the most time messing around with audacity. I think this was a great end to the class because it was a combination of everything we worked on throughout the semester.

Paper- This paper was not too tough, and I got to see two great movies that I had never seen before. I like the idea of putting images from the movie into the paper, and I think that added alot. I dont know too much about movies, but I liked analyzing the movie- something I dont ususally do. So for a paper, this assigment was great.

I present my final portfolio for your perusal and linking pleasure...

MY ANNOTATED PLAYLIST
My First Annotated Playlist

My annotated playlist is called "Sylvia Plath's Suicide Playlist," which is a collection of songs that I think express something about either the life or death of Sylvia Plath as I understand it. I ended up not using this list for my podcast, though, because when I attempted to put it in a podcast it seemed presumptuous and a bit offensive. But I think it looks great on paper and am proud of my slections.

Here is my revised Midterm Portfolio, along with the additions to make this a complete Final Portfolio.

My Annotated Playlist was a lot of fun to work on. Actually, the hardest part proved to be narrowing down my song selections. I was amazed (one I chose a focus) to realize how many songs came to mind. Then, once I finally narrowed down my choices to a manageable number, I had a hard time deciding what order would work best. I am happy with the final product but think it is definitely best with a good deal of explanation. I suppose that anyone listening could pick up the theme, but my own thoughts about the songs offer more insight into the ideas behind the playlist. Looking back, I probably would have chosen songs with more of a similar tone (musically) to them, but I guess everyone gets better with practice.

Annotated Playlist: Journey Playlist
I really enjoyed making my playlist, as it was a chance to work with music. I’ve loved music ever since I was little, but I’ve never felt able to work in the medium, so it was really neat to get a chance to (in a small way) act as a composer. Figuring out how to physically post the playlist was a bit tough for me, as it was our first assignment and I didn’t quite understand the idea of our class blog just yet. But I really had fun creating my playlist, even though I felt spoiled for choice most of the time. There’s just so much great music out there, and it’s impossible to know what you’re missing most of the time. On that note, I am beginning to think that music has maybe taken over as the dominant creative form of communication in our culture. It seems to me that it used to be novels, short stories, and poetry that acted as the primary forms of creative communication, but now I think music is fulfilling that role.

I'm still missing my playlist podcast, but I'll go ahead and post what I've got of my portfolio, considering that midterms are long past and I'm falling farther and farther behind.

--------
My Playlist
Of all the assignments we've had this year, this has been my favorite so far. The idea of telling a story with music isn't such a new one, but until I actually tried doing it, I didn't realize what a challenge it would be. Picking what story to tell was the hardest part - I didn't want to do anything simple, cliched, or vague - I wanted to be able to tell a concrete story.

Okay, so I have finally completed my porfolio. Well, *almost* completed it. My playlist is still giving me headaches because I think I just have a poor version of Audacity, or else my computer is terminally flawed (probably the latter), but in any case, I have the rest of my pieces ready for viewing and have some thoughts ready to share.

Podcast

Overall I think our projects were awesome. They made poetry, literature, music, and imagery much more intriguing and dynamic. My favorite project was probaly the collages. It was both fun and challenging to depict facets of a chosen work that typically one would only use words to describe. Blog postings probably were the most difficult for me. This doesn't seem like a hard task, but sometimes I had trouble responding to others' posts. Literature and its components are not favorite topics for me and I really don't know much about them, therefore it was difficult for me to give an informed, or even intelligent response, to various posts. With that said I have definately learned a few things and have a better appreciation for literature and media.

CLASS:
I decided to take this class because most literature classes are pretty much structured the same. We read, we discuss, we write. This class seemed like a way to do something fun and hands-on with literature. I wasn't really sure what we were going to do. Somehow though, all of the assignments have coalesced to give me a unique perspective of the intersection of literature and media. And, as I mentioned in one of my blogs, I believe this class will be very useful if I end up in a high school English class, where I will face the challenge of making my students computer literate.

I have really enjoyed the freedom you have given us in this class, not only in terms of deadlines, but just in general in our assignments. I feel like you have created a supportive environment where we can be open and expressive. In your role as teacher, you have given us the tools ( a working knowledge of technology) to express ourselves, and then let us free. With these tools, we have taken tentative steps to figure out the technology and use it to create. We took literature out of the books and situated it in many different contexts. As we become more comfortable with these mediums, I am sure our work will improve and all of these skills will be handy down the road. Finally, I like how the class is product based, as evidenced by this portfolio.
