Emotional Impact on the Audience

The movie should have an effect on the audiences' emotion. It should be shocking or upsetting so that the audience will think about the problem and be willing to take action. The movie should be taken seriously by the audience. Good example of this is Shawshank Redemption. In the movie, there is a scene where a new inmate is beaten to death by a guard for no other reason then the fact that he was scared. At another time, (main character) is repeatedly raped by a gang of homosexuals. He always try to fight them off, but he's not always successful. These scenes are shocking to the audience, but there are also scene's where everything seems to be going well. When (main character) escapes at the end, outsmarting everyone in the jail, audience can't help but have a smile on their face. The movie really touches the audiences' emotion and make the people cry and laugh at the same time. The movie should also seem real to have a greater effect on the audience's emotion. A real life event that could happen to anyone will have a greater effect then a fantasy event where you know it could never happen to you. Again Shawshank Redemption is a good example because anyone could be falsely accused of a crime which only you know you did not commit. This will capture the audience's sympathy and the whole movie will be more effective.
