One of the major problems that colleges and universities face today is the
growing number of rapes that occur on their campuses. When discussing rape one
must also take into account the number of acquaintance rapes that are either not
reported by victims or are not labeled as rape by university officials.
According to Frank Carrington, a consultant for Security on Campus, a non profit
group, "It seems like date and acquaintance rape is the rule rather than the
exception on campuses today" (Time 54). "And the way that universities treat it
[rape] is to cover up and protect their image while a tremendous outrage is
building" (54).
