A third way that colleges and universities could help victims of rape would be to
make rape easier to report and to follow through with prosecution. Many victims
of rape, especially young college girls, claim that they fear reporting their
rape case because they are afraid that they are the one's that will be treated as
criminals. They are afraid that their past sexual history would be used against
them and that their reputations on campus would be ruined. A portion of the
resolution proposed to the California colleges, called "for a protection of the
victim's rights (a woman's sexual history may not be used against her) and it
urged campus counseling centers to increase their capacity to deal with date
rape" (Findlen 73). Such a resolution would give rape victims a sense of
security and encourage them to report rape with the help of campus counseling
centers.
