Another way to fight rape is to make the student body and their families aware of the horrors of rape on their campus. Another point of the resolution proposed to the California colleges was that "all first year students will be required to attend seminars to familiarize them with all aspects of the issue [rape] including legal defense and the nature of date rape" (Findlen 73). In a law which was passed in Minnesota in 1992 colleges are required to make campus crime statistics public. This ensures that the students and their family members are able to evaluate colleges not only according to their well publicized academic opportunities but also according to their crime rate and their ability to handle crime on their campuses.
