Discrimination by the doctors
Looking at transsexualism as a type of illness is yet another form of
discrimination. We must realize that transsexualism is an identity and not an
illness. It is a cultural "choice" which is just one of the many cultures in
America. (3) The reason we must get this transsexualism is an illness idea out
of our heads is because it is not an illness. Doctors are trying to treat those
who are not ill. Christine Tayleur, a cross-dresser since the age of nine is now
a transsexual. At the age of fourteen, she was put into a psychiatric facility
by her parents because of her fetish of cross-dressing. Tayleur said that they
drugged her into a zombie-like state. She stated, "They call it treatment, I
call it torture." You can't treat someone who is not sick.
