The opposition
It is understandable that many do feel that transsexualism is "weird" because it
is something very new and different to a society that has pretty much had a
certain set values for a very long time. "'Do we accept this as something that
should be approved or morally neutral?' said Gary Jarmin, a spokesman for
Christian voice, a 300,00 member lobbying group. 'No. It defies the fundamental
values that we believe in.'" This is how many of us feel undoubtedly. However,
just because we feel that transsexualism is "morally wrong," it does not give us
the right to act against transsexuals in a violent manner. It is important to
understand that antagonizing, protesting against, beating up, or even killing
transsexuals will not just make them disappear. As Leslie Feinberg said, "It
will take the strength of a united movement to push back the wave of violence and
discrimination. And, that's just what were building."
