Violence by the public

Transsexuals and transgenders are being brutally murdered and beaten up simply because they look and act differently than the rest of us. Brandon Teena, Lisa Lambert, and Phillip Devine were found shot to death on New Years Eve. The killings were motivated by the coming out of Brandon Teena, who was a transgender. (1) "Michelle Lotter said her brother and Nissan (the two accused murderers) were outraged after the fact that Brandon being a trangendered person was publicly exposed." (1) Now ask yourselves, what did Brandon Teena have to do with Lotter and Nissan? How could Brandon being a transgender possibly have affected them so much as to kill him along with his two other friends? According to Leslie Feinberg, the author of Stone Butch Blues, "This is the kind of terror and brutality that so many transgendered people, lesbians, and gay men face in rural and urban areas." Feinberg's book shows the truths behind the clash of these two very different societies. (1)
