When students go off to college they anticipate doing many activities that go along
with college life. They expect to go out and party, to stay out all night and sleep all
day, skip classes, and generally have the college experience. Other more serious issues
are thought of also but not as often. These topics are various forms of campus crime,
racial issues, and censorship in college universities. The main goal for our project is
to examine these issues and observe how students react to them. We will then formulate
ideas and conclusions on how these problems can be solved.
Natasha Rogers: Racial Issues "Racial Relations on College Campuses"
I am writing about how different colleges deal with multiculturalism and racism on campus. Specifically, what programs they have to accomdate different ethnic groups to ensure minority retainment. Also how the students view race and racism on their campus and if they think the college is looking after minority needs with the varoius programs that they have.
Melissa Talamantes: Campus Crimes "Campus Rape"
My topic involves campus crime, specifically rapes on college campuses. On the average most campuses today are not properly handling rape cases which are reported to their head officials. Convicted rapists are also not being given proper punishment and the victims of rape are having their rights infringed upon along the way. Overall my paper proposes several laws and proposals which could and should be enacted by universities who do not have such preventative measures against rape already. My paper prompts action to be taken to end the senseless crime of rape for good.
Richard Vu: College Newspapers "Censorship in the Student Press"
I will be writing about how college and high school publications affect students. Should these newspapers be used as an educational tool or simply to inform students of events? What happens when a disagreement between students and adminstration breaks open because of a story ? The main questions I will be trying to answer is are these student run publications educational tools and should there be a censorship policy in place that tells student journalist what they can print and what they can't print?
