Researching on the Web

The world wide web holds an unimaginable amount of information and data. Unfortunately, because it is so large and far-flung, it is sometimes very hard to find what you are looking for. Search engines such as Infoseek and Alta Vista came into being as a way to find specific information on the web. Deja News is a search engine, much like Infoseek and Alta Vista, except that it searches archives of newsgroups.

I will cover Infoseek in detail and give shorter passages to Alta Vista and Deja News. I do this because the basic principles (and in some cases the actual commands) are exactally the same for all three of these search engines. I would suggest that you find one that suits you and you are comfortable with, and use it. Then, if you can not find what you are looking for, try another engine.
