Twitter Video

Using Camtasia software, create a video based on your experiences researching Twitter and your Internet culture topic. Your video should make use of Twitter or Twitter data in some way, but the parameters are open to experimentation. You will first need to get a sense of what kinds of videos you might create with screen recording:

http://youtu.be/vzi1FRiH3CU (an interpretation/enactment of a text or idea)

http://youtu.be/ZB4LVN_kFBc (an academic discussion of a topic)

https://vimeo.com/36649332 (an artistic performance related to a topic)

These videos don't exactly capture what our projects will look like, but they might give us some ideas. To get closer to a concrete project, you can think about genres and rhetorical purposes. Consider whether your video might be cast as a research report, an argument, an entertainment piece, an advertisement, a parody, a literary work, a political statement, or some other possibiility. You can explore these potentials as you put together the project proposal.

Once you have an idea for your project in mind, you will need to spend some time learning the Camtasia software and creating the video. We will learn most of the basics in class. You can then capture and edit video using Camtasia to create the video. You will want to think about the role of audio and music, the pacing, and the arrangement of materials. In many ways, you will be managing the viewer's attention as you compose.

As you work, be sure to save references to and keep track of the major sources that you use.

When you are finished, export the video as an mp4 file, then upload the video you YouTube or Vimeo. (You will need to create an account)

Once your video has been posted online, use the add content option on our site, and select Twitter Video. Take a screenshot to serve as a thumbnail of your video, paste the URL of the video into the form. Also add a few sentences describing your video and a list of the major materials that you have used. Submit the video posting to our site before class on July 1.

I hope that my video encourages you to think about issues and questions you may have never considered before and that my video walks the line between being somewhat informative yet thought-provoking at the same time.

Let me know what you think!

Also, just as an added disciaimer none of the materials I used in this video are mine. These are all for educational purposes only and I claim no copyright on them.
