Today's activities will be geared toward the final project.

You will need to choose a partner to work with on this projects, but before you begin, we will do an exercise individually. First, you will want to think about a subject area to work with. You will be doing a research project about this subject area, so make sure it something that engages you. Next we will spend about 30 minutes freewriting about the subject. I'd like each one of you to fill out the form and write freely in the spaces below:

Prompt 1: What are the most interesting or unknown aspects of your topic?

Prompt 2: When people argue about my topic, they usually disagree about what?

Write freely for fifteen minutes on each prompt. Don't worry about mechanics or even making sense. Just let the thoughts flow.

Next you will need to get together with your partner for the project. As a team, go over your two freewrites and try to flesh out the major threads of thinking. next, decide if either of your subject areas will work for you as a starting point for the project. If not, spend some time brainstorming together about possible alternatives. Once you've settled on a topic together, spend about 10 minutes freethinking; the goal for the freethinking sessions is to come up with some topic questions. These should be queries about something related to the topic. List as many questions as you can that pertain to your topic.
